Sub-field: Environmental Condition in the Area surrounding the source / intake: Presence or evidence of Hazardous Waste
Categorization
The main sources of hazardous waste generation are Agricultural, Industrial or Artisanal activities. Cash crops in close vicinity to the run-off area of a stream source or a spring area poses a risk, as agro-chemicals and chemical fertilizer used in such land gets easily washed down with rains, thus contaminating the source.
Similarly Dug well intakes sited in or in close proximity to paddy fields have a high risk of being contaminated due to the agro-chemicals used

Uses and Utilization of the Dashboard
This Dashboard displays CBOs/WS Systems with potential risks to their Sources/Intakes due to the presence or evidence of Hazardous Waste.
It enables the relevant and / or responsible agency to plan for, and arrange the type of interventions required, when called for. It could be technical advice on the type of protection best suited for respective Sources/Intakes to avert potential risks due to the presence or evidence of Hazardous Waste.
Based on the information they could initiate or advocate for pollution prevention programmes to mitigate the risks in the catchments areas of the respective WS Systems, especially where the risks are higher.
